(OMAHA, Neb.) – October 2012—Lindsay Corporation, maker of Zimmatic by Lindsay irrigation systems, announces several enhancements to its Precision VRI (variable rate irrigation) system, including the addition of FieldMAP software.
Precision VRI is designed to save water and energy by allowing growers to apply the right amount of water based on the unique characteristics of their fields, such as crop type, soil type, topography or obstacles in the field.
Irrigation planning is made easier with the new addition of FieldMAP, Precision VRI’s custom mapping software program, according to Al Kuta, Lindsay product manager. With FieldMAP, water application can be optimized for both the area irrigated and the water source. Field “management zones” can also be set for different application rates.
The updated Precision VRI system also includes a new toolbar, new icons, the ability to change between a variety of measurement units, new online tutorials and a new file backup system. GPS-based positioning is used for accurate control and programming.
With Precision VRI, individual sprinkler heads on the irrigation system can be programmed to turn on or off or pulse at a customized rate depending on crop, terrain or obstacles in the field. In addition, the speed of the machine can be controlled to optimize return time and make full use of the pivot pump and water supply. The technology can also be used to precisely apply chemicals or fertilizer to crops.
“Customers have asked for the ability to more precisely control water application rates in their fields. With Precision VRI from Lindsay and the addition of FieldMAP, they have the technology and flexibility to apply the right amount of water or chemicals based on the unique characteristics of their fields,” Kuta says.
Precision VRI works on almost any brand of center pivot or lateral system.
